What Is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is a dry finishing technique that is used on thousands of products and consumer goods. It offers many benefits over traditional painting and metal plating processes and is commonly used by surface preparation and finishing specialists.
Typical Applications
The automotive and maritime industries, appliance makers, architects and builders all rely on powder coating for its decorative and protective properties, which include a lustrous shine, outstanding colour selection and a durable, long-lasting finish.
Metal furniture, bikes, office supplies, lighting fixtures and appliances are just a few of the everyday items that are powder coated.
How Does It Work?
Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials (predominantly metals). As the name suggests, the powder used in this process is a mixture of finely-ground pigment and resin which is sprayed onto the surface to be coated.
The particles within the pigment are charged during the spraying process and adhere to the electrically-grounded surface. The treated surface is then passed through a heating process where it is heated until the particles are fused to form a smooth and even coating throughout. The result is a uniform, durable, high quality and attractive finish.
Before carrying out the powder coating process, we ensure all thread parts and bores are fully masked and bunged using heat resistant tapes and bungs. This allows components to be easily assembled once the coating treatment has been completed as the treads and bores are free from excess powder residue.
